The Junior Zone at Hogback
Below are some photos from the Munising Seventh-day Adventist Church Junior Sabbath School Class's hike up Hogback Mountain on Sabbath, 18 October 2008. Hogback is a bit north of Marquette, Michigan, towards Big Bay, and is one of the southernmost of the Huron Mountain Range. Hogback is fun because it is largely exposed rock on top, putting you above the local treeline. Views are stupendous.
The parking area where we began, but this photo was taken at the end.
Brent! Looking at his Palm Pilot. Perhaps he's got an appointment.
Jeff and Eric. Jeff's the one having a snack-break.
See what I have to put up with? What a motley crew. And when Brent smiles, be afraid, very afraid...
Karl!
Jeff!
Stephanie! Either she was mesmorized by the beautiful scenery, or she just turned her head at the least-opportune moment.
Ryan! Here is the only photo from the trip that I took holding the camera in portrait mode. It just goes to show, there's an oddball in every group. (Just kidding there Ryan).
Fall-color is stupendous from up here. We missed peak color by maybe a week though.
More fall-color. That's Harlow Lake in the distance, with Lake Superior just beyond.
I believe we're looking sort of westish here.
Kurt and Pastor Ilko were pretty much non-stop talking. I recall something about the economy in the New Earth at one point. That's too heavy a topic for me. I was thinking more along the lines of those snack-bars in my backpack.
I took a photo of Kurt taking a photo of his three kids. Stephanie and Brent also had cameras. It occurred to me that if everyone lined up properly, that I could have taken a photo of Brent taking a photo of Stephanie taking a photo of Kurt taking a photo of the kids. And if we stood in a circle, we'd have an infinite loop, completely disrupting the time-space continuum.
Kurt went after a shot of the fall colors too. It really was a good day to be up on Hogback.
I'm thinking a hat, for Christmas, for the Pastor, would be a really good idea.
And finally we arrive back at the parking-area, where the kids compared photos on their digital cameras.
