Lost and Found Kittens
Back in 2001, I submitted a story -- a true story -- to Pacific Press for possible publication in a church magazine for children known as Our Little Friend. First they rejected me, suggesting that I rewrite in third-person. And while I fully meant to follow their editorial advice, I somehow never got around to doing the actual work. My bread-and-butter work was keeping me busy enough. Imagine my shock one day when a check for USD $35.00 showed up in the mail (or perhaps it was $25.00). They published my article, not in Our Little Friend, but in a publication named Primary Treasure aimed at a slightly higher age group. They not only published my article as written, but as icing on the cake they built their magazine cover-image around it. To say that I was thrilled would be a massive understatement, and to this day I count publication of The Lost and Found Kittens as one of my proudest moments.
If you prefer, you can read the story in text form rather than from the scanned in pages from the magazine.
